Beimsteinhof - Active, above Merano

Verano, where the sun shines longer

The small village of Verano, in the Merano area, lies 1,200 m above sea level and is part of the Monzoccolo or Tschögglberg, a small mountain range lying between Bolzano and Merano. It is linked to the Adige valley by the cable car line that runs to Postal, or Burgstall and a road that goes to Avelengo, or Hafling, and then to Merano, which is easily travelled in both the winter and the summer months. Sun worshippers will love Verano and the surrounding area. It is blessed by a mild climate from Spring to late Autumn and is excellent for strolls and walks, followed by a nice rest in the comfortable local inns. Thanks to our fortunate position near Merano, there are a lot of trips to be taken to the nearby towns, such as Merano, the city of flowers, with its historic porticoes and the new spa, or Bolzano, the city of culture, which offers theatre, dance and of course Ötzi, the ancient ice mummy.

Beimsteinhof - fun all year round

Spring

In the Spring, nature awakens to new life at the Beimsteinhof above Merano - meadows of crocus and fresh green grass as far as the eye can see. Close your eyes and breathe in the fresh air.

Summer

In the Summer there is a lot to see right at the farm itself. Such as a mountain bike tour over the various forest and high-country paths in the Merano region, a romantic ride on traditional Haflinger horses in Avelengo and Verano or a nordic walking tour over high-lying alms, or simply relaxing on our wooden recliners at the Beimsteinhof.

Suggested walk: Vöran – Grüner Baum – Familienbesinnungsweg – Waldbichl – Vöran
Time required: about 2.5 hours, Difficulty: low, Elevation gain: about 300 m
Best time of year for this route: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

The starting point is Beimsteinhof. From here you take the No. 16 path eastwards to above the Grüner Baum inn. Turn right above the athletic area and follow the sign to the Familien-Besinnungsweg. From here, take path 1 to the Rohrer. The climb to the Waldbichl starts just left of the house on path 15A, the Hüttenbachweg. Up hill and down dale and after hopping over a few fences as well, you will soon be at the Waldbichl.

Return: Just below the Waldbichl, take path 16 in the direction of Bruggen-Weiher to the Grüner Baum, and sloping gently downwards from there, back to the Beimsteinhof.

Please note: the art along the Familienbesinnungsweg was done by our brother-in-law, Oswald Kröss.

Suggested walk: Vöran – Schützenbründlweg – Knottnkino – Knottnkinosteig – Vöran
Time required: about 2.5 hours, Difficulty: low,
Elevation gain: about 300 m
Best time of year for this route: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter

The starting point is the Beimsteinhof. From here you take the No. 16 path eastwards to the fork at the Grüner Baum inn. From the parking area above the Grüner Baum take the Schützbründlweg, path No. 12A. At the end of the Schützbründlweg go left toward the Knottnkino on path 11.

For the way back, we recommend the new Knottnkino path. Below the Weberhof, follow the paved road for about 10 minutes and then turn right onto the new forest path. Above the Eggerhof there is a lovely view over Verano.

The path runs further, sloping slightly downwards, through meadows and woods. Shortly before Verano, before the wooden bridge, turn off left. The path is somewhat steep for 10 minutes, after which there is a fork in the path and a fence to climb over. Below the Beimsteinkogel you will soon reach the Beimsteinhof.

An amusing - and possibly useful - structure next to the path - the little outhouse with a heart carved into it.

Suggested walk: Vöran – Bacherhof – Schlaneid – St. Ulrich – Vöran
Time required: about 3 hours, Difficulty: low,
Elevation gain: about 100 m
Best time of year for this route: Early April to early November

Starting from the Beimsteinhof, go through the centre of the village and follow path No. 13 left to the Bacherhof farm. From here, follow the V markings to Schlaneid and then up and to the right along the path marked U to the the St. Ulrich inn. Continue from here on the main road from Meltina, or Mölten, to Verano, turn off to the left (path 13) to the Langwieshof farm, down to the Bacherhof farm and back to Verano.

Autumn

Autumn invites you to lovely walks through the brightly coloured woods and meadows surrounded by stands of larches and breath-taking, glass-clear views. Autumn is harvest time: the best of everything from the kitchen, the cellar and the garden is on the table. Let yourself be pampered in the alm-huts and the farmhouse drinking holes and enjoy wine and chestnut season.

Winter

In Winter, your farmhouse vacation starts right outside your door. Snowy fields, crystalline air, unbelievable quiet... relax you in a very special way.

Starting at the farm, you can plan romantic winter strolls and snowshoe walks in Verano and the Merano 2000 ski area. For all those who love their peaks and their powder, the Merano 2000 ski area, only 15 minutes away, is the place to be for skiers and snowboarders.

Well-prepared winter paths await you...
